About Our Purpose

Our Mission & Vision
Our mission is promote mental wellness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health through counseling, psychoeducation, and community engagement. We aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment where individuals feel empowered to seek help, share their experiences, and engage in practices that improve mental well-being.
The Issues We Face
Rural populations face disparities that become barriers to receiving mental healthcare services. 22.8 % of Bastrop Counties 98k+ residents have no medical insurance, which is double the national average. In 2022, over 1.6 million people attempted suicide and 49K+ people died by suicide in America. These rates are on the constant rise and the suicide rate in Bastrop County is higher than the national average. The Strong Minds, Strong Communities initiative will help ensure that rural individuals and families facing mental health challenges are not alone and can access the care and resources they need to thrive.
Development & Sustainability
The Strong Minds, Strong Communities Model was developed by T. J. Finn, M.Ed., C-NPT, LPC-A. T.J. is supervised by Dr. Joy Snook, PhD., LPC-S. The Strong Minds, Strong Communities Models Initiative can be sustained through partnerships, funding, and local involvement, allowing continuous access to mental health care and education in Bastrop County. This same model can be implemented in other rural communities.

Strong Minds, Strong Communities
Core Beliefs
"Strong Minds, Strong Communities" is a powerful concept that highlights the deep connection between mental well-being and the strength of the community as a whole. The following core beliefs behind this concept are built on the idea that when individuals prioritize their mental health, they contribute to building healthier, more resilient, and supportive communities.
1. Mental Health is Essential for Well-being
-
We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. A healthy mind is the foundation for a fulfilling life and positive relationships.
2. Everyone Deserves Support
-
Mental health challenges do not discriminate, and everyone deserves access to support, whether that’s through counseling, peer support, or community resources.
3. Breaking the Stigma
-
We believe in creating an open environment where people feel comfortable talking about their mental health without fear of judgment. Reducing stigma leads to better understanding, empathy, and stronger connections.
4. Building Resilience Together
-
Strong minds come from support networks. Communities thrive when individuals come together to support each other, share experiences, and learn from one another, building resilience in both individuals and groups.
5. Self-care is a Shared Responsibility
-
Prioritizing mental health is not just an individual effort, but a collective responsibility. Communities should encourage self-care practices, advocate for mental health education, and ensure resources are available to all.
6. Empathy and Compassion Lead to Stronger Connections
-
By fostering empathy and compassion, we can build meaningful relationships that support each other through mental health struggles, making communities more cohesive and understanding.
7. Prevention is Key
-
A proactive approach to mental health can prevent many challenges. By promoting mental health education and awareness, we can equip individuals with the tools to take care of themselves before reaching a crisis point.
8. Everyone Can Contribute to Strengthening the Community
-
Each person has a role in creating a mentally healthy community, whether through listening, offering support, volunteering, or sharing their story. Together, small acts of kindness and understanding create a stronger, more connected environment.
9. Hope and Healing Are Possible
-
We believe in the power of recovery. No matter where someone is on their mental health journey, hope and healing are always within reach with the right support, care, and commitment.
10. Accessibility is a Right, Not a Privilege
-
Everyone should have access to mental health services and resources. Whether it’s therapy, support groups, or self-help tools, mental health care should be available to all, regardless of background, status, or financial resources.
-
These core beliefs highlight the interconnectedness of individual mental well-being and community strength. When we prioritize mental health and support one another, we lay the foundation for communities that are resilient, compassionate, and strong.
